Exploring the Potential Use of Sentinel-1 and 2 Satellite Imagery for Monitoring Winter Wheat Growth under Agricultural Drought Conditions in North-Western Poland

This paper presents analyses of the potential use Sentinel-1 (S-1) and Sentinel-2 (S-2) imagery to generate models winter wheat growth under agricultural drought vs. normal conditions identified based on yield losses calculated in Agricultural Drought Monitoring System (ADMS). The carried out showed sensitivity satellite images determined ADMS. study was conducted a large region, West Pomeranian Voivodeship (NUTS PL42), analysis covered about 22,935 polygons with production that constituted total area 108,000 ha period from 1st April July 2021. For S-1 data, VH VV backscatter VH/VV ratio were calculated, for S-2 NDVI NDWI indices which used build water stress conditions. obtained results presented this work include: (i) Development test version model describing crop’s growth, preliminary assessment showing recognizing shortage effects; (ii) identification promising indicators scarcity crops, images, could be recommended application remote sensing (RS) effects as complementary multispectral radar observations. also gave many clues regarding direction method including national monitoring programmes, involves operations types big data sets.
